In the growth plate of the +/+, columns of proliferative and hypertrophic chondrocytes are seen. In the Fgfr3^tm2Wei/Fgfr3⁺, the tibia is smaller and the columns are disrupted and shortened with very few cells in the proliferative and hypertrophic zones. (E & F) In situ hybridization of the growth plate with a probe for collagen type II, a marker for proliferating chondrocytes.
