Panel A shows the normal anatomy in a plane at about the level of the optic chiasm; panel C shows a corresponding section from the homozygous mouse. Panels B & D represent more posterior sections from the same wild-type and homozygous mice, respectively. The * in panel C indicates an axon bundle that has formed due to the failure of formation of the ventral hippocampal commissure.
