Caption Cresyl violet staining shows a 2-fold reduction in the size of the Pou4f1tm1Nat/Pou4f1tm1Nat trigeminal ganglia (A & B) and a selective loss of large cells (C - F). (E & F) Large cells indicated by large vertical arrows; small cells indicated by arrowheads. In the homozygous trigeminal ganglia, Pou4f1 (Brn-3a) immunoreactivity is absent (G & H). the density of Pou4f2 (Brn-3b) immunoreactive cells is greatly reduced (I & J) (the rare Pou4f2 cells are indicated by small arrows), the density of Pou4f3 immunoareactive cells is reduced approximately 5-fold (K & L), and the density of Ebf1 immunoreactive cells is reduced less then 2-fold (M & N). Abbreviations: trigeminal ganglion (TGG); brain (Br) Scalebars: A & B: 200um; C, D, G-J: 50um; K-N: 25um
