Caption | Temporal posterior retinas from Tubtub/Tubtub mice at 3 (A) and 11 (B) weeks of age, depicting the region of photoreceptor inner and outer segments. The irregular membranous profiles of outer segments are apparent. At 3 weeks of age, the subretinal space is filled with vesicular membrane-bound profiles (arrow) that are of the same electron density as that of adjacent degenerating inner segments (*). The quantity of these vesicular profiles is most abundant between 3 and 5 weeks; at later times, they are observed less frequently. C: Photoreceptor-cell cilia appear normal at all stages, exhibiting the typical 9+0 arrangement of microtubule pairs. Abbreviations: outer segments (OS); outer limiting membrane (OLM). | ||||
