Light micrograph of a 1um thick section through the middle turn of the organ of Corti. Loss of inner (double arrow) and outer (single arrow) hair cell number and polarity are observed. In addition, vacuolization and degeneration of supporting cells, especially those associated with the inner hair cells (*), are apparent. Magnification: X160
