Caption A comparative study of Egfrwa2/Egfrwa2 (A, C, & E) and Egfrwa2/Egfrwa2 Ptpn11tm1Paw/+ (B,D & F) newborn mice. A & B: Section of abdomenal skins. In severely affected Egfrwa2/Egfrwa2 Ptpn11tm1Paw/+ mouse, skin was poorly developed with no or few disorganized hair follicles, thinner epidermis, reduced subcutaneous fat or muscle tissue mass. Hematoxylin/eosin stained. C & D: Lung sections. There was a marked reduction in the size of aveolar spaces (atelectasis) and an increase in the thickness of aveolar walls in the Egfrwa2/Egfrwa2 Ptpn11tm1Paw/+ mice. Hematoxylin/eosin stained. E & F: Small bowel. The lumen is filled with desquamated cells, giving a solid appearance. Hematoxylin/ eosin stained. Magnifications: A,B,E & F: x280; C & D: x200
