In wild type mice (A), stria vascularis (SV) capillaries consist of a thin endothelium and pericytes, sheathed in a continuous basal lamina. Endothelial cells are sealed by extensive TJs, one of which (frame) is shown at higher magnification (B arrow). The arrowhead in B indicates the basal lamina. C-F: SV capillaries in Gjb6^tm1Kwi/Gjb6^tm1Kwi mice feature a wall comprising multiple cell layers (double arrows) and basal lamina sheets (arrowheads). Asterisks indicate enlarged paracellular spaces between endothelial cells, appearing as electron-transluscent zones. Scale bars: A: 2um; B: 200nm; C & D: 1um; E & F: 500nm
