In contrast to wild type ovaries (A,B), the ovaries of Gja1^tm7(Gja2)Kwi/Gja1^tm7(Gja2)Kwi mice reveal only a few follicles and not corpora lutea (C). Maturation of follicles appears to be arrested at the early secondary stage (D). The morphology of most follicles was impaired and showed a cyst like structure (D, arrows). Some ovaries consisted of one big cyst (E).
