Caption Electron micrographs of outer and inner segments from retinae of littermate wild type (A, C and E) and Dnajc5tm1Sud/Dnajc5tm1Sud mice (B, D and F) at P28. The outer segment region from the respective mice is shown, whereas E and F focuses on the inner segments. In mutant mice, membrane stacks of the outer segments appeared partly clumped and largely adopted an abnormal shape (asterisks in B, D and F). In some cases, outer segments were found at abnormal positions in the inner segment regions (arrow in F). Furthermore, in the mutant mice, vesicle trafficking in the inner segments appeared to be reduced compared to wild type mice as judged by the number of intracellular membrane profiles and vesicles in the inner segments. OS, outer segments; IS, inner segments; m, mitochondria; G, Golgi apparatus. Scale bars, A-D, 500nm; E and F, 1um.
