Caption | Transmission electron microscopy of skeletal muscle from 10 week old mice. Sections of myofibers from wild type diaphragm (wt, A) show well-formed myofibrils in register, and paired mitochondria arranged in an orderly fashion at the Z-lines between adjacent myofibrils. Corresponding sections from Destm1Cap/Destm1Cap (-/-) diaphragm show numerous areas with severely disrupted myofibrils (B and C). The star in B identifies the area magnified in C. The myofibrils are not in register, and are often separated by large areas of cytoplasm. Some myofibrils appear to be disintegrating. The mitochondria are also very disorganized. Bars: 1.0um. | ||||
