Caption | Hematoxylin and eosin stained sections of gastric epithelium of 9 week old wild type (+/+, A) and Slc9a4tm1Ges/Slc9a4tm1Ges (-/-, B and C) mice. As compared with wild type, the glandular stomach of mutant mice was characterized by reduction in the number of readily discernable parietal and chief cells and an increase in the number of mucous and relatively undifferentiated cells. When observed under increased magnification, compared with wild type glandular stomach (D), the mutant stomach (E) exhibited decreased cell size and an increase in interglandular connective tissue (arrows).
