Transmission electron microscopic images of wild type (+/+) (two each, 30 and 52 days) and Chkb^rmd/Chkb^rmd (rmd/rmd) (two each, 30 and 52 days) medial gastrocnemius sarcomere. Regular alignment of z-band structures is seen in both wild type (A) and mutant (B), with normal sized mitochondria (arrows) seen in wild type (C), and megamitochondria (arrows) only observed in mutant (B and D). Note that the mutant fiber with megamitochondria has not undergone regeneration, as indicated by peripheral nucleus (N). Scale bars: A and B, 2um; C and D, 500um.
