Caption | Caveolin-3 protein expression is required for the development of a mature highly organized T-tubule system. Skeletal muscle tissue samples from wild-type mice (Cav-3 WT, A, left panel) and Cav3tm1Mls/Cav3tm1Mls (Cav-3 KO, A, right panel) were subjected to T-tubule system staining using potassium ferrocyanate. As a consequence, the T-tubules appear as electron-dense structures (stained black). Note that the T-tubule system is dilated and longitudinally oriented in mutant mice. Transmission electron micrographs of skeletal muscle sections from mutant mice are also shown in panel B at a higher magnification. | ||||||
