Caption | Maftm1Mym/Maftm1Mym newborns lack a normal lens structure (A, arrow; B shows wild-type). Maf deficiency prevents elongation of posterior lens fiber cells in mutant (C) but not in wild-type (D) mice. A normal lens structure is not visible in the E16.5 mutant embryo (E, arrow), whereas the wild-type E16.5 embryo has a visible lens structure (F). In the E16.5 mutant embryo (G), unlike its wild-type littermate (H), the lens fiber cells are not elongated, and consequently, the lens cavity is empty. Sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Original magnification of the sections are x200 (C,G and H) or x100 (D). | ||||
