A: Sagittal section of the folium in a Grid2^Lc-J/Grid2⁺ (Nm/+) P12 cerebellum. Multiple pyknotic figures are observed in the Purkinje cell layer; however, the majority of Purkinje cells display a normal morphology. B: Detail of the Purkinje cell layer in a mutant P12 cerebellum. Several pyknotic figures are observed in teh Purkinje cell layer. Purkinje cells (black arrow) stand out because of their large size, their rounded euchromatic nucleus, and their prominent nucleolus. The pyknotic figures in this field are in various stages of degeneration, but one of these (white arrowhead) has a morphology that clearly resembles that of a Purkinje cell. C: Detail of the curve of a folium in a mutant P12 cerebellum. This section of the folium is missing a large portion of its Purkinje cells.
