Caption | Time course of changes in ventral roots of old mice. Light microscopy of toluidine blue-stained cross sections of L5 ventral roots from wild-type (A,D and G), Nefmtm1Ral/Nefmtm1Ral (NF-M; B,E and H) and Nefmtm1Ral/Nefmtm1Ral Nefhtm1Ral/Nefhtm1Ral (NF-M/H; C,F and I) at 4 months (A-C), 1 year (D-f) or 2 years (G-I) of age. Myelinated axons in the ventral roots of the 4 month and 1 year old single and double homozygous mutant mice, although reduced in size, are otherwise normal in appearance. By contrast, axons in the ventral roots of the 2 year old mutants appear shrunken and frequently irregular in shape. Bar, 10 um. | ||||||||
