Cardiac morphology and function. A: A beating heart can develop in the absence of titin's kinake region. Ttn^tm1.1Her/Ttn^tm1.1Her (KO) mice reach midgestation and develop a functional, beating heart. Unlike wild-type (WT) and heterozygous (Het) mice, the hearts of homozygous mutant mice are more fragile and fail to contract autonomously at increasing rates from E9.5. Numbers of embryos analyzed are provided above each bar. B: From E10, ventricular wall thickness and trabeculation are reduced compared with wild-type mice, as indicated by the black brackets (d vs. c and f vs. e) Lymphocytes infiltrate the pericardial space of mutant mice at E11 (f, arrowhead).
