Caption | Whole-mount analysis of #4 mammary glands. Whole-mounts of the inguinal (#4) mammary gland were examined to determine if a unique ductal system was associated with the supernumerary nipples. Mammary glands were dissected, whole-mounted, fixed in methacarn (60% methanol, 30% chloroform, 10% glacial acetic acid), and then stained with carmine and cleared in methyl salicylate. (A) Whole-mount of #4 mammary gland from a 3 week old C57BL/6 mouse. N indicates the nipple associated with the normal #4 mammary gland. (B) Whole mount of #4 mammary gland from a 3 week old Nrg3ska/Nrg3ska mouse. The supernumerary nipple and mammary gland are seen adjacent to the normal #4 mammary gland and indicated by an arrow. N indicates the nipple associated with the normal #4 mammary gland. | ||||
