Caption | Growth retardation of Hs6st1tm1Kkm/Hs6st1tm1Kkm mice. The skeletal samples of newborn wild-type (+/+) and Hs6st1tm1Kkm/Hs6st1tm1Kkm (-/-) mice were stained with Alcian blue and arizarin red. On the whole, the skeletons of the mutant mice (B and C) were smaller than those of the wild-type mice (A). They often lacked a hind limb phalange and either possessed a smaller tarsus in the hind limb compared with the tarsus in wild-type mice or were completely lacking a tarsus. D-F, higher magnification of the respective hind limbs shown in A-C. Abnormal eye morphology was observed in approximately one-half of the mutant mice. The arrows indicate the tarsus (t), phalanges (p), and eyes (e). | ||||
