Caption | Comparison of placenta morphology in wild-type and Hs6st1tm1Kkm/Hs6st1tm1Kkm mice. Wild-type (+/+, A and C) and Hs6st1tm1Kkm/Hs6st1tm1Kkm (-/-, B and D) mice. The E15.5 placentas were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The lower panels show a high magnification of the rectangle in the upper panels. The orange arrowheads indicate nucleated fetal red blood cells, and the green arrows indicate maternal red blood cells. In the labyrinthine zone of the mutant embryo placentas, there were reduced numbers of fetal red blood cells. The yellow arrow indicates the labyrinthine zone. De, maternal deciduas; Ch, chorionic plate; La, labyrinthine zone; Sp, spongiotrophoblast layer. | ||||
