Phenotypes of Rasa3^tm1Shiw/Rasa3^tm1Shiw mice. A: Photographs of E12.5 Rasa3^tm1Shiw/Rasa3^tm1Shiw (-/-), Rasa3^tm1Shiw/Rasa3⁺, and wild-type (+/+) littermates, whose genotypes were determined by genomic PCR. Homozygotes exhibited edema and hemorrhaging in the head and trunk. B: Transmission electron micrographs of adherens junctions between endothelial cells of the brain from wild-type (left) and homozygous (right) mice. The right side corresponds to a lumen of the blood vessel. Arrows indicate junctions between capillary endothelial cells. Note that the number of adherens junctions in homozygotes is greatly reduced.
