Caption | Rapid hair loss due to the defective holding of hair shafts by Cdsn-deficient inner root sheath (IRS). Hair follicles from grafted Cdsntm1Mmat/Cdsntm1Mmat skin (-/-, lower) demonstrated abnormal cystic dilatation of follicular infundibulum (arrowheads) and/or cystic dilatation of infundibulum filled with keratinized cells (arrows). Additionally, infundibular epithelium (asterisks) is thickened in grafted mutant skin compared with that from grafted wild-type (+/+, upper) skin. Note that grafted control skin contains hairs at a catagen phase, in which the formation of club hair is observed (upper, white arrows). (Scale bars: 100 um). | ||||
