Pathological analysis of organ tissues of Il6^tm1Poli/Il6^tm1Poli and wild-type mice with candidiasis. (A and B) Periodic acid-Schiff stained sections from kidneys of Il6^tm1Poli/Il6^tm1Poli (A) or wild-type (B) mice at 5d after infection with virulent C. albicans. In mutant mice, an inflammatory lesion (arrows) is present with large necrotic areas and hyphal cells. (C,D) Medial sections from the stomach of wild-type (C) and mutant (D) mice inoculated intragastrically with C. albicans 2 weeks earlier. In mutant mice, note the presence of multiple, eruptive abscesses on the mucosal surface, and acanthosis, parakeratosis, and abundant inflammatory cells in the submucosa and lamina propria.
