Caption Shown is immunofluorescence analysis of 4 week-old eyes from littermate controls (A,C,E and G) and Lama1tm1Olf/Lama1tm1Olf Edil3Tg(Sox2-cre)1Amc/0 mice (Lama1delta, B,D,F and H) with anti-laminin alpha1, anti-collagen IV, anti-perlecan, and anti-dystroglycan antibodies. Histological examination with H/E staining demonstrates that the well organized ganglion cell layer and intact inner limiting membrane seen in controls (I) are replaced by a disorderly ganglion cell layer with ectopic cells and vessels within the vitreous in mutants (J). Glutamine synthetase staining shows that, in the control retinas, Muller cell end-feet lie at the inner limiting membrance (K). In the mutant retinas, however, Muller cell processes fall short, terminating in the inner plexiform layer, and are lacking end-feet (L). Ectopic cells (arrows) are also visible on the vitreal side of the retina in mutant retinas.
