Caption Histological sections of eyes of 8-day-old and 3-month-old mice. In histological sections of eyes from 8 day-old BALB/cJ (A,E) and ICR mice (B,F), no pathological changes are observed. In contrast polygon epithelial cells in anterior lens capsule are seen in CrygcM1Sbao/CrygcM1Sbao mice. Sponge-like degeneration is seen in the cortical area underneath the anterior lens capsule in mutant mice. Epithelial cells overproliferate and become polygon in shape in the equatorial region in mutant mice, and sponge-like and vacuole-like degeneration in the cortical area under the posterior lens capsule in seen heterozygous and homozygous mutant mice (arrow), respectively.
