Whole-mount views of wild-type (Adam17^+/+), Adam17^tm1Imx/Adam17⁺, (Adam17^deltaZn/+) and Adam17^tm1Imx/Adam17^tm1Imx (Adam17^{deltaZn/deltaZn}) embryos at E11.5 (A), E14.5 (B) and E17.5 (C); embryos were unfixed, unstained. Homozygous mutant embryos exhibited hemorrhagic lesions compared with their wild-type and heterozygous littermates (see dotted boxes in B and C and higher magnification views in Figure 2). Hemorrhage was observed in E14.5 embryos and increased with gestational age. At later stage E17.5, the arrows denote edema.
