The arrows mark the colliculus inferior, which is absent in Tfap2d^tm1Mos/Tfap2d^tm1Mos mice. (c-f) Immunohistological analysis with Tfap2d (Ap-2delta; c, d) and Tfap2a (Ap-2alpha; e, f) -specific antibodies on sagittal sections from 3 week old mice midbrains. Tfap2d expression is restricted to the colliculus inferior and, to a lesser extent, to the colliculus superior and the dorsal thalamus. Tfap2a is expressed in the colliculus superior and the cerebellum of wild-type animals. In Tfap2d^tm1Mos/Tfap2d^tm1Mos mice, the expression of Tfap2a extends throughout the entire mesencephalon.
