Caption | Panels A-C show the proximal tibia in a female wild-type mouse. Note the thickness of the diaphyseal and metaphyseal cortical bone (C) and the thin layer of trabecular bone (Tb) at the growth plate (A). B, a higher magnification shows the normal thickness of cortical bone at the metaphysis, whereas C shows the extensive trabecular bone (pink) that normally makes up the spongiosa at the metaphysis. Panels D-F show corresponding areas of bone in an age-matched affected Akr1a1Gt(OST222400)Lex/Akr1a1Gt(OST222400)Lex female mouse. D, there is a complete fracture (Fx) of the bone near the metaphysis with extensive callus formation. E shows severe reduction in cortical bone thickness and periosteal fibrosis (*). F shows the complete loss of trabecular bone at the epiphysis. | ||||
