Neurodegenerative changes in the midbrain of Atmin^tm1Axbe/Atmin^tm1Axbe Tg(Nes-cre)1Kln/0 mice. (A) Coronal sections through the midbrain of control (ATMIN^F/F) and Atmin^tm1Axbe/Atmin^tm1Axbe Tg(Nes-cre)1Kln/0 (ATMIN^deltaN) mice were stained with anti-alpha-M antibody to measure activated microglia. (B) High magnification of indicated region. (C) Adjacent sections were stained with anti-alpha-X antibody to identify phagocytic microglia and with anti-GFAP antibody to measure reactive astrocytes (D). Histograms on the right display the density of positive cells per mm² from an equivalent area from two control and two mutant brains. All numbers were corrected using the Abercrombie method.
