Caption | Reproductive tracts isolated from aged nulliparous Antxr2tm1.1Jkit/Antxr2tm1.1Jkit (Antxr2-/-) female mice exhibit an altered morphology with severe fibrosis. (A) Comparison of reproductive tracts isolated from wild-type (Antxr2+/+) and homozygous mutant mice at one month and three months of age. Sexually mature, (three-month-old) homozygous mutant uteri are shortened and thickened compared to wild-type. Tissue lying between the uterine horns in the three-three month images is the colon. (B) Masson's Trichrome staining of reproductive tracts demonstrated that there is progressive collagen fibrosis (blue color) in the uterus as homozygous mutant mice age. Ep, endometrial epithelium; S, stroma; M, myometrium; GE, glandular epithelium. Scale bars, 150 um. (C) Masson's Trichrome staining of fifteen-month-old cervical tissue demonstrated that homozygous mutant mice have cervices with increased collagen content (blue color). Bottom panel is boxed image at higher magnification. Top panel scale bars, 400 um. Bottom panel scale bars, 150 um. Three mice of each genotype were evaluated for each time point. Representative images for each time point are shown. | ||||
