Development of glomerulonephritis in Pkn1^tm1Kik/Pkn1^tm1Kik (Pkn1-/-) mice. Haematoxylin-eosin staining (HE, top) and immunofluorescence staining with anti-IgC antibodies (alpha IgG, middle) and anti-C3 antibodies (alpha C3, bottom) of kidney sections from 6-month-old wild-type (WT) and mutant mice. Glomeruli from some mutant kidneys has increased mesangial cell numbers and thickened basement membranes (top). IgG and complement component C3 deposition is evident in mesangial regions of mutants (middle and bottom).
