Caption Collagen VI deficiency in skeletal muscle and dermal fibroblasts of the Col6a3 mutant mice. A, cryosections of quadriceps muscles from 1-month-old wild-type (+/+), heterozygous (+/-hm) and Col6a3tm1Chu/Col6a3tm1Chu (hm/hm) littermates immunostained with polyclonal antibodies specific for the alpha3(VI) and alpha1(VI) collagens. B, immunostaining of collagen VI deposited by fibroblasts from the wild-type, heterozygous and homozygous mutant littermates. Cells were grown in the presence of 50 ug/ml ascorbate phosphate for 4 days postconfluence and then stained with polyclonal antibodies specific for the alpha3(VI) and alpha1(VI) collagens. Note the intracellular accumulation of the alpha1(VI) collagen in the heterozygous and homozygous fibroblasts. Magnification bars, 50 um.
