A) Gross morphology of E15.5 wild-type (Ick^+/+) or Cilk1^{tm1a(KOMP)Mbp}/Cilk1^{tm1a(KOMP)Mbp} (Ick^tm1a/tm1a) mutant embryo tongues. Tongues were surgically removed and fixed in 4% (vol/vol) PFA before photography. Mutant embryo tongues were smaller than those of wild-type and malformed. (B) Histological examination of mutant kidneys, which showed cyst-like tubule expansion. Sections of 4% PFA-fixed E16.5 embryonic kidneys were counterstained with hematoxylin.
