Skull and long bones from wild-type (WT), Fgfrl1^tm2.1True/Fgfrl1^tm2.1True (ki) and Fgfrl1^tm1True/Fgfrl1^tm1True (ko) mice at E18.5 were stained with alcian blue (specific for cartilage) and alizarin red (specific for mineralized tissues). Skeletal elements from knock-in (ki) mice did not show any abnormalities when compared to WT mice. Only samples from Fgfrl1^tm1True/Fgfrl1^tm1True (ko) animals displayed some alterations. The long bones were frequently shorter and the skulls were often smaller than those from WT animals. Bar = 100 um.
