Caption | Morphological abnormality of Purkinje cells in Grid2ts3/Grid2ts3 (ts3) cerebella. A) Kluver-Barrera's stain was performed on mutant and wild-type (WT) cerebella. Number and morphology of Purkinje cells were normal in mutants. In contrast, however, granule cell (GC) numbers were reduced, and the size of the nuclei was significantly smaller than WT. Scale bars, 50 um (upper panel); 20 um (lower panel). B) Immunohistochemistry was performed on cerebella in mutant and WT mice using anti-calbindin antibody as a Purkinje cell marker. Purkinje cell morphology became progressively altered commensurate with mouse age. Note that dendrites of mutant Purkinje cells at 30 weeks of age look significantly thicker than their WT counterparts. Dendrite branching was also abnormal in mutants. Scale bar, 20 um. | ||||
