Iron is reduced in Purkinje neurons and in CA1 pyramidal neurons of Ireb2^tm1.1Eal/Ireb2^tm1.1Eal (Irp2^-/-) mice. A) Perls' diaminobenzidine (DAB)-enhanced iron staining in CA1 pyramidal neurons and Purkinje neurons in mutant and wild-type (WT) mice (Pkj, Purkinje; gl, granular layer; wm, white matter). B) Quantification of Perls' staining of images in (A) was carried out by measuring staining intensity in a defined subsection of brains from mutant (n = 10) and WT (n = 8).
