Phenotype Image Detail
Image
Caption High magnification fluorescent images of the pharyngeal arch region of E9.5-10.5 DAPI stained (a) wild-type and (b) pal/pal (palloncino) embryos. Arrowheads illustrate the abnormal size and shape of individual pharyngeal arches in each of the mutants identified in our screen. The asterisk demarcates the perturbed boundary between the maxillary and mandibular prominences in palloncino mutant embryos. Mutant embryos show agenesis of the caudal third and fourth pharyngeal arches. They display abnormal pharyngeal hinge morphology in the form of a modest cleft due to hypoplasia of both the maxillary and mandibular prominences.
