High magnification fluorescent images of the pharyngeal arch region of E9.5-10.5 DAPI stained (a) wild-type and (b) Med23^snouty/Med23^snouty (snouty) embryos. Arrowheads illustrate the abnormal size and shape of individual pharyngeal arches in each of the mutants identified in our screen. The second arch is almost always hypoplastic and is occasionally absent in very severe mutants.
