Bright field images of Sox10 in situ hybridization stained E9.5-10.5 (a) wild-type and (b) Notch1^sot/Notch1^sot (sottile tubo) embryos. Arrowheads and arrows, respectively point to ectopic Sox10 positive ganglia and agenesis or hypoplasia of the neural crest cell component of the cranial ganglia. Defects in neural crest cell development are mild. The trigeminal ganglion is abnormally shaped and the Sox10 positive neural crest cell population within the forming ganglion is disorganized and dispersed.
