Caption Bright and fluorescent images of PECAM-1 immunostained E9.5-10.5 (a) wild-type and (b) pal/pal (palloncino) embryos. Arrowheads and arrows indicate perturbed pharyngeal arch artery formation and anomalies in vascular plexus development, respectively. Mutant embryos lack caudal pharyngeal arch arteries and exhibit diminished cranial vascular plexi. Pharyngeal arch arteries are variable in size. Mutants also exhibit dilated rostral arch arteries.
