Epidermal hyperplasia in wild-type, Ctsl^tm1Cptr/Ctsl^tm1Cptr (Ctsl^-/^-) and Ctsl^tm1.2Thre/Ctsl^tm1.2Thre (Ctsl^{KiTTCdeltaSTOP}/Ctsl^{KiTTCdeltaSTOP}) mice. Paraffin sections of back skin epidermis with Ki67 staining indicating proliferating keratinocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis. In wild-type (wt) epidermis proliferating keratinocytes occur only sporadically. The epidermis in Ctsl^tm1Cptr/Ctsl^tm1Cptr mice is thickened and shows numerous proliferating cells. The skin morphology in Ctsl^tm1.2Thre/Ctsl^tm1.2Thre mice is identical to Ctsl^tm1Cptr/Ctsl^tm1Cptr. Scale bar, 20 um.
