Caption | A-X, H&E staining on sections of heads of Sox11tm1.1Gan/Sox11tm1.1Gan Tg(EIIa-cre)C5379Lmgd/0 (Sox11Ella-Cre) embryos, shows the histology of developing palatal shelves. A-L, downward outgrowth of the palatal shelves shares similar features in mutants and their wild-type (Wt) littermates at E12.5 (A-C versus D-F) and E13.5 (G-I versus J-L). Palatal shelves elevate to the horizontal position above the tongue dorsum and contact each other in the midline at E14.5 in the Wt (M-O) but remain in a downward position in the mutant (P-R). In comparison with a completely formed secondary palate in the Wt (S-U), mutant mice still exhibit cleft palate with shelves in a downward position at E15.5 (V-X). T, tongue; Ps, palatal shelf. Scale bars = 200 um. | ||||||
