Caption | Absence of mucous (goblet) cells in tracheal and laryngeal submucosal glands in Spdeftm1.1Cle/Spdeftm1.1Cle mice. Tracheal/laryngeal glands in wild-type (WT) mouse are shown after H&E and Alcian blue staining. Distinct mucous cells (black arrowheads in A) and serous cells (red arrows in A and B) from WT mice are shown. Mucous cells were not detected in the submucosal glands of the mutant mice, although serous glands were present (B). Alcian blue staining was readily detected in submucosal glands of WT mice (arrow) (C) but rarely observed in submucosal glands of mutant mice (arrow) (D). Arrows indicate regions of higher magnification shown in inserts (C and D). Figures are representative of n = 3 individual mice of each genotype. Scale bars: 50 um. | ||||
