Pten^tm1Hwu/Pten^tm1Hwu Tg(Tyr-cre)1Lru/0 (HM) mice displayed hyperplasia of the submucosa plexus of the enteric nervous system (ENS). Transverse sections of P15 wild-type (WT) and mutant colons were immunostained with an antibody directed against TUJ1. Note that hyperplasia was observed in the HM submucosal and mucosal ENS plexus, but not in WT (black arrowhead). Red squares correspond to the high magnification pictures on the right of the figure. Note the invasion of the nerves in the submucosal part of the intestine. Scale bar, left: 50 um; scale bar, right: 20 um.
