Caption Disruption of meiosis in Syce3tm1Rben/Syce3tm1Rben mice. Histological analysis of testes (day 30) and ovaries (day 32) from wild-type (Syce3+/+), heterozygous (Syce3+/-), and Syce3tm1Rben/Syce3tm1Rben (Syce3-/-) mice stained with haematoxylin and eosin. Mutant homozygous testis lack postmeiotic stages whereas all stages of the spermatogenic cycle occur in the wild-type testis. The size of homozgyous mutant ovaries is greatly reduced compared to wild-type littermates and additionally mutant ovaries are completely depleted of follicles. (Ser) Sertoli cells, (Sc) spermatocytes, (Sp) spermatids, (eSp) elongated spermatids, (aSc) apoptotic spermatocytes, (Sg) spermatogonia, (Oc) oocyte, (Od) oviduct. Long and short bars, 100 um and 175 um, respectively.
