Caption Resorbing Cyp51tm1.1Bfro/Cyp51tm1.1Bfro (-/-) embryos from different developmental stages. A. Embryos at very early stage of resorption where we could still obtain intact material for genotyping. The majority of resorbing embryos were in advanced stage of resorbtion and hence no genotype could be ascribed. Only 6.8% (3/44) of knockout embryos at E14.5 were resorbing (example is shown on the picture). Majority of knockout embryos at E14.5 were alive, displaying Antley-Bixler-like phenotype. All resorbing embryos at E15.5 were designated knockouts. Heterozygous and knock-out embryos are designated as +/+ and -/-. B. Example of embryo at advanced stage of resorbtion. Implantation site with part of decidua is shown. Muscular uterine lining has been removed. Yolk sac contains embryos in advanced stage of resorption visible as dark haemorrhage. No embryonic tissue could be collected for genotyping. Such resorption points were present in all examined developmental stages. Scale bars indicate 1 mm.
