E12.5 mouse lung. A: In situ hybridization. Strong signal in the mesenchyme (solid arrows) and the epithelium (arrowheads); less peripheral and more mature epithelium had diminishing expression (open arrows to double open arrows). B: The same section shown in A was counterstained with H&E for reference. The arrows and arrowheads point to the same areas indicated in A. C: A serial section to that shown in A and B was immunolabeled. Expression was present in the mesenchyme (solid arrows). Expression in the epithelium was restricted to tips of the epithelial tubules (arrowheads). Expression in more mature central airway epithelium was greatly diminished (open arrows) to undetectable (double open arrows). D: Sense control. Scale bar = 100 um and applies to A-D.
