A: RNA in situ hybridization on an E15 mouse lung section revealed diffuse expression in the mesenchyme and high-level expression in some epithelia (arrowheads) but not in epithelia more centrally located (arrow). B: Immunolabeling of a section serial to that in panel A. Epithelia (arrowheads) that were positive in panels A & B. Expression in more central airways was undetectable (arrow). C: The same section shown in A stained with H&E. D: RNA in situ hybridization on an E14.5 mouse lung section. Signal was present in the mesenchyme with a slightly higher expression in areas adjacent to epithelia (open arrows). Expression was high in some epithelia (arrowheads) but not detectable in those more centrally located (solid arrows). E: A serial section to that in D immunolabeled. Expression was present in the mesenchyme and on epithelia (arrowheads). Expression was undetectable on central airway epithelia (arrows). F: H&E of the section shown in D.
