Caption | Hematoxylin-eosin and safran colorations of vestibule and cochlea in wild-type (A & C) and Otogtwt/Otogtwt (B & D) mice at 4 days of age, indicates the sensory epithelium of the utricle, the saccule and the crista ampullaris in the wild-type mouse is normally covered by an otoconial membrane (arrow). However, in the Otogtwt/Otogtwt mouse, in the saccule, the otoconial membrane is slightly displaced (arrow); in the utricle, the otoconial membrane is present but fully detached and not visible; but it is clearly present, as seen in the insert; the two cristae ampullares are normally covered by a cupula (arrow). Despite a slight difference in the plane of the sections, both the tectorial membrane (arrowhead) and the sensory epithelium in the cochlea of inner ear of a 4 day old Otogtwt/Otogtwt mouse (D) has a development similar to the inner ear of a 4 day old wild-type mouse (C). Abbreviations: crista ampullaris (CA); saccule (S); utricle (U) | ||||
