Caption A & B: The two upper panels display the yolk sac of Psen1tm1Bdes/Psen1+ Psen2tm1Bdes/Psen2tm1Bdes (A) and Psen1tm1Bdes/Psen1tm1Bdes Psen2tm1Bdes/Psen2tm1Bdes (B) littermates (identical magnification). The arrowhead points to the vascular plexus. Although initial vascular plexus and primitive red blood cells form in the double mutant, organization into a discrete network of vitelline vessels is lacking, yolk sacs do not expand properly and often have a blistered appearance. C & D: Psen2tm1Bdes/Psen2tm1Bdes (C) and Psen1tm1Bdes/Psen1+ Psen2tm1Bdes/Psen2tm1Bdes (D) embryos appear normal. E: The neural tube of E9.5 double homozygous embryos often has a kinked appearance. F: Psen1tm1Bdes/Psen1tm1Bdes embryos are only marginally retarded at E9.5. Magnification is identical for C-F
